PRODUCTION NEWS UPDATE:
In 2009 Big Telly Theatre Company toured across Ireland with the World Premiere of a new stage adaptation of Spike Milligan’Äôs comic novel Puckoon.
The critically-acclaimed show was adapted by the company from a dramatisation by Vincent Higgins, directed by Zoˆ´ Seaton, and featured original music and songs by Paul Boyd.
Big Telly is pleased to announce that due to public demand Puckoon will return to the stage soon. More details will be posted on this page, or you can keep up to date with the latest news by joining the pbm facebook group here.
Puckoon tells the hilarious story of what happens to a rural community in Ireland when the Boundary Commission decides that the Irish border will go straight through the middle of their town. With the church separated from its own cemetery, man detached from wife, and cheap beer available in one corner of the pub, life in Puckoon will never be the same again.
The initial 20-venue tour of the production played to packed houses, with many shows sold out well in advance, culminating in a week of performances in Dublin.
The 2009 Irish tour visited Strule Arts Centre (Omagh), Roscommon Arts Centre, Ardhowen Theatre (Enniskillen), Iontas Theatre (Castleblayney), Hawk's Well Theatre (Sligo), Market Place Theatre (Armagh), Garage Theatre (Monaghan), Ramor Theatre (Virginia), Riverside Theatre (Coleraine), The Alley Theatre (Strabane), Garter Lane Theatre (Waterford), Belfast Waterfront Hall, Droichead Arts Centre (Drogheda), Mermaid Arts Centre (Bray), Siamsa Tire (Tralee), Simon Ryan Theatre (Tipperary), An Grianan Theatre (Letterkenny), Down Arts Centre (Downpatrick), An Tain Theatre (Dundalk), and Civic Theatre, Tallaght.
